“SECOND RAIN (SR)” is a family of three mobile cooling devices designed at varying heights to collect air-conditioning water drips and transform them into mist, adapting flexibly to both indoor and outdoor settings. A curved metal vessel at the top receives falling water, which is then filtered, stored, and released through a misting nozzle. Crafted with a metallic and acrylic finish, SR incorporates a diffused light reflecting off the water surface—positioning itself between a domestic appliance, public furniture, and a climatic prototype.
In Hong Kong, AC dripping—often dubbed “city juice”—is an inescapable part of the pedestrian experience. This is especially prevalent in older districts, reflecting how cooling systems have been added piecemeal over time. “SR” treats this runoff as a microclimatic byproduct of private comfort, exploring whether it can be redirected into a shared experience of relief during sweltering seasons.
By rewiring familiar domestic readymades, “SR” turns dehumidification, filtration, and misting into a public process. At deTour, the project tests whether an everyday nuisance can evolve into a lightweight climatic infrastructure that raises awareness, provides comfort, and serves as a blueprint for future street deployment.
